NORTHERNS NOMADS CAPTAIN’S REPORT

NORTHERNS NOMADS CAPTAIN’S REPORT

1. Introduction

All protocols observed.  It is an honour to submit my first Captain’s report for Northerns Nomads. I wish the new Executive Committee at Northerns Nomads a successful year ahead. It is without doubt, that we will need to face certain challenges in the coming months. However with unity, nothing is insurmountable. It was encouraging for me to witness at our very first ‘meet and greet’ earlier this month (with the National Chairman in attendance), the positivity each Committee member expressed. Wishing each and everyone a constructive and fun-filled year ahead in your portfolios.

2. Monthly Meeting May 22nd (Wingate Country Club) Wingate Country Club offered its usual high standard, both on and off the course. The weather on the day was surprisingly accomodating – which was a real relief to all. Milkskies and the flag flew high – thank you JVC. The ladies at the table were hard at work. On this point, thank you to both Charleen and Antonette for finding their respective feet, especially with Antonette’s role as Club Treasurer. The game started on time and was well attended with 80 players in total. This included 25 visiting Nomads and guests. It was fantastic to play with two new guests and member, Louis van Ravenstein. Although our golf ability was not quite shining, we all had a wonderful time. The prizegiving proceedings commenced on time. It was an absolute honour for me to firstly hand over a 35-year tie award to Lourens Grutzmacher, followed by a 20-year tie to Carl Hugo. This then, to be followed by the induction of four new Nomads namely; Joe Khumalo, Marthinus Kruger, Jean Joubert and Bennie Lange. Welcome to the home of Northerns! On a more sombre note, we also read the creed for those departed. One in our memory on the day; namely Lee Potgieter. Further condolences went out to Northerns Jan van Straten (also a past National Chairman) who passed away earlier in the month. VC Pieter Dunwoody efficiently handled the prize announcements with assistance from Equipment Officer Platjie Klaasen. PTG= Paid to go , E= Easterns Well done to all the winners and especially the VC – great golf! The whisky raffles, attendance draws, pick-3, Lolly and 100 club were then followed by the JVC’s new competition – “A HOLE of the Day” . This competition was well received by the members and tickets were quickly sold out. Well done to Platjie Klaasen, who took home R2000-00. The Joker Draw happily rolled over. The prizegiving was wrapped up and ended with a delicious dinner of chicken curry. Thanks again to the Wingate staff. Big word of congrats to the Committee on the night, in their new respective roles. Well done, Team.

3. General
As with any changes or handovers within an organisation, it is often somewhat disruptive in the beginning. This is where we, as a Committee find ourselves at this current time. There has been a lot of ‘structural work’ which was recently forged in the background. The financial roll out of a proper accounting system is now complete (albeit without final take on figures from end December 2021). This accounting platform will greatly assist future Treasurer’s and Committee’s. The enormous amount of free hours sacrificed by Antonette Klaasen and Glenn Wienand with this process, does not go unnoticed. We currently face another pressing issue that requires urgent attention, namely the Ladies Handicap proposal to Natex. Other regions are also requesting assistance in this regard. Thus, the formation (as done with the finance team) of a sub-committee fully focusing on this outstanding issue, is being initiated. We shall then present the proposal to Natex.
